(San Francisco-AP)-- With the world's ancient forests vanishing at an
alarming rate, some of America's best-known companies are promising to do
their part to save them.
I-B-M, Hallmark and Nike are among the 20 firms who say they will
eventually stop using and selling products made with old-growth wood. That
wood comes from forests where trees are hundreds of years old, and are
often home to animals, birds and insects.
While the companies are agreeing to stop, it's unclear just when the goal
will be met. But the Rainforest Action Network hopes it's soon.
The groups says just 20 percent of the world's old-growth forests are
left-- and only five percent are in the U-S.
