CEBU (SNS) - A Civic women's organization is calling for the
preservation of the only known pocket forest in Cebu province.

The Federation of Women for Active and Responsible Development
(Forward) has vowed to protect and even expand Campo Siete in Toledo
city,

Martina Go Ching Hai, Forward president, yesterday said her group is
coordinating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
to preserve the pocket forest.

Go Ching Hai stressed that there is a need to focus on the
environment, especially with the deteriorating condition of Cebu's
mountain areas.

The group is scheduled to visit the site on Nov. 30.

Aside from planting trees and promoting livelihood projects, Forward
will also hold a medical mission in Campo Siete with the help of the
Rotary Club of Fuente and the Philippine Air Force.

Go Ching Hai said the group will encourage the residents there to help
protect the pocket forest. She wants them to be aware that Campo Siete
is considered the last pocket forest in the province.

Forward, composed of women environmentalists, has been involved
in tree-planting projects since 1990 with the help of other civic
organizations.
