MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS IN THE SFI 2022 STANDARDS
The Major Enhancements document highlights updates to the SFI 2022 Standards. These include a new Climate Smart Forestry objective, a new fire resilience and awareness objective, conservation efforts, recognizing and respecting Indigenous Peoples’ rights, logger training requirements in both the SFI Forest Management Standard and SFI Fiber Sourcing Standard, and a new due diligence system for the avoidance of controversial sources. TRANSITION TO THE SFI 2022 STANDARDS & RULES
Changes adopted by the SFI Inc. Board of Directors to the SFI Standards must be incorporated into a SFI-certified organization’s policies, plans, and management activities within one year of adoption and publication. Similarly, changes to certification procedures and qualifications for certification bodies must be accomplished within one year of adoption and publication.

All surveillance audits to the 2022 or 2015-2021 Standards
All SFI-certified organization conformant to SFI 2022 Standards
SFI 2015-2019 Standards & Rules expire
VALIDITY OF SFI 2015-2021 CERTIFICATES DURING TRANSITION TO THE SFI 2022 STANDARDS
The process for transition from the SFI 2015-2021 Standards to the SFI 2022 Standards is detailed in SFI Section 7, ‘Standards Transition to the SFI 2022 Standards and Rules’. During the transition process, qualifying certificates issued to SFI 2015-2021 Standards are valid until December 31, 2023. After this date, no SFI 2015-2021 certificate is valid. To confirm the validity of a SFI 2015-2021 certificate please refer to the SFI Database.
SFI has issued updated guidance regarding audit restrictions due to COVID-19. We recognize that other requirements related to implementing the SFI Standards, such as logger training, may be disrupted while travel and gatherings are restricted.
